Location: Bonnefanten

Discover art through play – for all ages

On Sunday 28 June, we open our doors for a day filled with art, encounters and surprising activities. Discovering and experiencing art in a playful way is at the heart of the programme. The recently opened exhibition Born to Play is a perfect example of this approach. Visitors of all ages are invited not only to look, but also to do, experiment and be surprised.

A surprising programme in and around the museum

There is plenty to discover in and around the museum. Join an Urban Safari, be swept away by the energetic sounds of BRUiTAL or get creative in one of the hands-on workshops. Go on a texture hunt, create giant soap bubbles, design your own wind pennant for a collective garland or contribute to Draden van ons Nederlands slavernijverleden (Threads of our Dutch slavery history). You'll also find activities where art, nature and heritage come together. Make herbal tea with Wilgenvrouwen or explore the Limburg landscape through the mobile landscape museum De Hooiwagen by artists Stefan Cools and Sandra van den Beuken.

For, by and with the neighbourhood

Together with Buurtnetwerk Céramique and Buurtnetwerk Heugemerveld, we're turning this Free Sunday into a day for, by and with the neighbourhood. Join a special edition of Dansen in het Park (Dancing in the Park), meet your neighbours and enjoy everything the day has to offer. And because no neighbourhood celebration is complete without something sweet, Buurtnetwerk Céramique will be treating visitors to free Limburgse vlaai (Limburg pie), while supplies last.

Take home a piece of art

During Free Sunday, you can do more than just experience art, you can take it home with you. At the Bonnefanten Art Fair, you'll find a wide selection of artworks available at attractive prices. The Bonnefanten Museum Shop is also hosting a special sale, with discounts of up to 60% on a broad range of items. A great opportunity to take home something special.

Come and look, play, make, discover and connect.
Free entrance.

What are the Bonnefanten Free Fridays?

A free evening at the museum. With and for you.

Museums are the treasures of society in which past and present come together. They are the memory of the city, region and country and offer new windows to the world or enlarge the existing perspectives. Especially in this time, where everything revolves around experiencing and experiencing yourself, museums are perhaps more important than ever. They are places for reflection, wonder and astonishment, all emotions that give museums an intrinsic value. This must of course be accessible to everyone. With #BFF we hope to give more people that accessibility.

During Bonnefanten Free Fridays (#BFF), we open the doors for a free evening in the museum. Each edition, we invite a surprising association, club, foundation or sub-culture to organise a unique programme together. As a starting point for the programme, we take the collections of ancient and contemporary art or the temporary exhibitions currently on show in the museum. The programming consists of various activities, which challenge the visitor to change from spectator to participant or even co-creator.
