Stephen Wilks: Bottle River (Vessels)

The English artist Stephen Wilks (1964) lives and workes in Berlin. 'Bottle River(Vessels)' can be found all across the museum floor. We can see a thousand ceramic bottles flowing along the exhibition space. The image evokes a range of associations: a river, a flood of people, pollution of the oceans, and the contradiction between the beauty of ceramics and the ubiquitous disposable plastic bottles. Do we see a reference to mass culture? Or the fragility of a single ceramic piece? The balance between nature, humanity, and our enviroment is reflected in this monumental installation by Stephen Wilks. The work shows a range of references from the Qin Terracotta warriors to Tony Cragg, Richard Long, and Henry Moore.

This exhibition is one of the combined projects between the Bonnefanten and the estate Kasteel Wijlre (Bonnefanten Hedge House Foundation).

For the organisation of this exhibition we can count on the generous support of andriesse eyck gallery.
