Artworks from our storage that have never been shown in Bonnefanten or haven’t been on display for a long time.
The Bonnefantencollection comprises around 25,000 objects. Only a very small section can be displayed in our galleries. That’s actually a shame.
Deserved place
For this small presentation, we’ve selected a number of artworks from our storage
rooms. Works that we are eager to show, but that don’t always fit within the context of our current exhibitions. Some
are ‘standalone pieces’ that don’t quite connect with the rest of the collection. Others have either never been shown
in our museum or haven’t been on display for a long time. Nonetheless, these are works of high quality.
Hidden gems
Our paintings
by James Ensor and Carel Willink for instance are frequently loaned to museums both in the Netherlands and abroad.
This selection of lesser-known works was largely created in the first half of the 20th century, a period we usually
don’t highlight on this floor. They are united here in an associative manner and demonstrate the richness and
diversity of the collection of the Bonnefanten.
Intermezzo with works by, among others:
James Ensor, Ferdinand Erfmann, George Minne, Constant Permeke, Jan Toorop and Carel Willink.
