In memory of director and visual artist David Lynch who died 15 January, Bonnefanten is showing two of his artworks until the end of March.

Visual artist Lynch

David Lynch is a famous director known for films like The Elephant Man (1980), Blue Velvet (1986), Twin Peaks (1992), and Mulholland Drive (2001). He is an important figure in the world of film and television. However, fewer people know that he is also a visual artist. Throughout his career, Lynch kept drawing and painting, even when he was very busy making films. The arrangement on the second floor's balcony brings together two works from the Bonnefanten Collection as a tribute. ‘Amber Lamp’ and ‘I was a teenage insect’ show the versatility of the American, who created designs for chairs and lamps in addition to paintings.

Special connection Lynch and Bonnefanten

Bonnefanten hosted the first and only Dutch museum exhibition with and by Lynch ever, titled Someone is in my House (2018-2019). The American made a teaser especially for this solo exhibition; a video artwork in itself.

Unique in our collection

On this occasion, Bonnefanten managed to acquire four of his artworks. Highly exceptional as Lynch did not make his art for sale on principle. See all Lynch's works in the Bonnefanten collection.
