Rijksmuseum Maastricht:
Apelles & Vulcanus

29.09.07 - 06.01.08

As a follow-up to the retrospective From Vulcan’s Forge, the Old Masters department is to present an overview of Southern Netherlandish works dating from the sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries, under the name Rijksmuseum Maastricht. Antwerp and Bruges, the main centres of art of that period, will be highlighted separately. In addition, several themed cabinets are to be set up, centering on the portrait, the landscape and on architectural painting. The arrangement will also comprise a selection of mainly Dutch bronzes from the Rijksmuseum, displayed together with paintings from the same period. The presence of two late-fifteenth century Pleurants to complement the eight statues that have been part of the From Vulcan’s Forge exhibition since March is a further special feature.
