A unique anniversary gift for the Bonnefantenmuseum
An ambitious campaign on behalf of the museum's collection has led to the
acquisition of five key works by René Daniëls, Robert Mangold, Robert Ryman and Luc Tuymans. The anniversary gift represents a sum of almost three million Euros and forms a milestone in the history of collecting in the Netherlands.
At one stroke, the museum is able to dedicate a separate room to each of these renowned artists. This gives an
extra highlight to the collection profile, and underlines once again its international significance. This success is founded on partial donations by the artists involved and their representatives, and financial support from the Province of Limburg, the BankGiro Loterij, the Mondriaan Foundation, the Rembrandt Association and the Friends of the Bonnefantenmuseum.
It concerns the following works:
-
Untitled, (seascape), 1979, René Daniëls
- Large-Small, Thick-Thin, Light Reflecting, Light Absorbing 23, 2007, Robert Ryman
- Large-Small, Thick-Thin, Light Reflecting, Light Absorbing 2, 2008, Robert Ryman
- Ring Image B (Variation), 2008, Robert Mangold
- Dough, 2005, Luc Tuymans
The patrons and parties involved are: Robert Mangold, Robert Ryman, Luc Tuymans, Pace Wildenstein, NYC, Zeno X, Antwerp, BankGiro Loterij, Mondriaan Foundation, Rembrandt Association, Friends of the Bonnefantenmuseum, and the board of the museum with the honorary committee, comprising the gentlemen Peter Elverding, Fons Haagmans, Ronald de Leeuw, Jan Mans, Huub Smeets, Han Stiphout, Jan van den Belt and René van der Linden.
